Robot-assisted surgery allows for a minimally-invasive approach for otherwise extremely complex procedures. It also provides improved dexterity and precision over traditional laparoscopic surgery. Robotic surgery, while a form of laparoscopy, is a very different surgical platform and has its own unique skills and learning curve. A comprehensive, basic skills training curriculum is essential to overcome the early “safety” learning curve, so the surgeon can then focus on their “outcomes” learning curve.
